Instructions: Use the tool on the map with the crop icon to draw a search box, click search and get a list of the sheet maps known to show all or part of the area inside the search box. Use the refresh button to clear the search box and start over.
Please remember this is early proof-of-concept and the dataset is limited to maps of Maine in the Osher Map Library's collection with the necessary data (~545 maps out of 3000+ maps resulting from the inital search). The current standard practice of the Library of Congress effectively prohibits the entry of such data for maps before 1884 at the very earliest (establishment of the Greenwich Meridian). Earlier practices varied, so one will find much older maps that were cataloged under different guidance.
